What is Hypnosis?
As you probably know, your mind has two parts – the “conscious†and the “subconsciousâ€. The conscious mind is what you use when you’re awake and aware of your surroundings. It is actually only 20% of your mind however. The subconscious stores memories, emotions, and represents over 80% of your mind’s capacity.

In between the conscious and subconscious minds is a barrier that protects one from the other. This barrier keeps just any old thing from dropping into the subconscious mind and becoming a reality. What hypnosis does is to punch a small whole in this barrier and allow suggestions to be placed directly into the subconscious.

Hypnosis Scripts

Here are some fun and useful hypnosis scripts. These scripts are valuable in understanding how to approach giving suggestions and constructing a hypnotic intervention. The art of hypnosis is giving suggestions that are uniquely powerful and beneficial to the individual or group you are hypnotizing. You can not do this reading from a prepared script. While some hypnotherapists use scripts exclusively in their practice, most competent hypnotherapists would call them “readers” rather than hypnotherapists.

Those of us who are trained in how hypnosis works and how to formulate suggestions effectively, can get ideas from scripts on how other professionals approach a given condition. The scripts below are examples of how other professionals approach their work. None of these scripts are mine. I personally don’t use scriots. Though the approach some of these scripts take may vary from hypnotherapist to hypnotherapist, there is value in utilizing and understanding a wide range of methodologies.

Hypnosis is technically defined as the by-pass of the critical factor of the conscious mind and the establishment of acceptable selective thinking. Hypnosis is actually a very normal and natural altered state of consciousness during which you are actually more aware of what is going around you than you would be ordinarily and your mind remains clear, alert and focused on something. We all have spontaneously experienced this altered state of mind many times: day dreaming, when driving and you are so focused on something in your mind you miss your exit, driving to work on “auto pilot,” being in love, or crying while watching a movie.

Medical Hypnosis: An Underutilized Treatment Approach By Brian Alman, PhD

Abstract

Context: Use of hypnosis in medical practice has long been controversial, but recent developments in medical hypnosis–in particular, the understanding that the power of hypnosis resides mainly in the patient–have profound implications for treatment.Objective: To illustrate and explain the therapeutically useful application of hypnosis in medical practice. Design: Case series. Setting: Department of Preventive Medicine at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, San Diego. Patients: Five outpatient Health Plan members referred to a department of preventive medicine for alleviation of physical, emotional, or behavioral symptoms. Main outcome measures: Extent and duration of clinical recovery. Results: Patients in all five cases had dramatically successful clinical outcomes after three or fewer intensive hypnotherapeutic sessions. Conclusions: Medical hypnosis is an underutilized therapeutic modality which can be learned easily for everyday use in medical practice, especially when taking the medical history. In this era of emphasis on cost-effectiveness, both medical hypnosis and certain parahypnotic techniques (eg, closed-eye history taking) may be of special interest to physicians.
