Before looking specifically at hypnosis for weight loss, it is vital to understand the very concept of hypnosis itself. There are no end of misconceptions regarding hypnosis. Without a proper understanding of the basic concept, weight loss hypnosis may be overlooked by many people as if it was some weird, esoteric magical power. It isn’t.
Hypnosis is widely misunderstood. Some view it as some type of occult practice from the ‘dark side’ of spirituality. Others only see it in terms of the “stage hypnotist” as popularized on television shows who make people do ridiculous things against their will just for laughs.
Neither is true.

In hypnosis generally, and in weight loss hypnosis specifically, you remain conscious at all times. You are not “under a spell”. You are not even asleep – just in a relaxed state a stage or so before sleep. You are in a state of consciousness where thoughts, ideas, and positive affirmations can be spoken to you and your sub-conscious is in its most receptive state.
Hypnosis for weight loss is not some “magical power”. It is very much like a specialized branch of psychology, and similar to Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). The objective of hypnosis is to implant positive behaviour modification thoughts into your subconscious.
If a person still has reservations about weight loss hypnosis but recognises the need for assistance with behaviour modification (or will power), please seek the services of a qualified clinical psychologist who practices CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy).
Hypnotherapy for weight loss is one of the major areas Clinical Hypnotherapists address with their patients. Retraining the human mind in regards to controlling appetite urges, specific cravings, motivation for exercise, stress relief and other related areas are well known to qualified practitioners.
Impressive, lasting (though not necessarily permanent) weight loss results are usually gained from just a handful of weight loss hypnosis therapy sessions. Unlike some forms of weight loss treatment, hypnotherapy for weight loss does not require a long term commitment to the therapy itself.
I strongly recommend that, for the stubborn cases of obesity that do not respond to normal treatments, weight loss hypnosis be tried in conjunction with a healthy diet and regular exercise. Success testimonies abound and risks are extremely low compared to more extreme measures such as drugs or surgery and should most certainly be undertaken well before such more drastic measures are considered.
